Launching May 28th on PS5, Xbox, and Steam, Gaelic Football Laochra is the first new Gaelic football game in nearly 20 years
Buck Eejit Games has announced that Gaelic Football Laochra, its long-awaited Gaelic football video game, will launch on May 28 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam.
Developed in Belfast, Gaelic Football Laochra brings one of Ireland’s most iconic sports back to video games after almost two decades. Built by an independent local team, the game aims to capture the speed, skill, physicality and atmosphere of Gaelic football, from fierce county rivalries to the pursuit of championship glory.
Players can take to the pitch in quick matches, tournaments and Career Mode, managing their squad across the seasons, developing talent and pushing their team towards success. The game also features responsive, skill-based gameplay, intelligent AI movement, the latest changes to the sport’s ruleset, local multiplayer, dynamic match commentary from Michael D McAndrew, and an extensive creation suite for building custom players, kits and teams.
The game’s cover star is Aidan Forker, the All-Ireland winning captain, who fronts a project designed to give Gaelic football fans the modern game they have been waiting for.
“Gaelic football means a huge amount to people across Ireland and the wider Irish community, but it has been missing from the games space for far too long,” said Peadar McMahon of Buck Eejit Games. “This has been a massive undertaking for our team, and we are incredibly proud to finally put Gaelic Football Laochra in front of players. We wanted to make something that feels recognisably Gaelic football – fast, intense, tactical, chaotic, emotional and full of personality.”
For Buck Eejit Games, the project is also a statement of ambition for the local games industry.
