Flatline Studios’ cyberpunk roguelike deckbuilder gets a game-changing Metaprogression Update featuring hardware mods, a new missions system, and a fully redesigned map UI
Flatline Studios announced that Into The Grid, its cyberpunk roguelike deckbuilder and dungeon crawler currently in Early Access on Steam, just received its most significant update to date, along with its participation on the Steam Deckbuilders Fest. The Metaprogression Update introduces a deep layer of pre-run customization through Hardware Mods, a Missions system, and a completely overhauled Map UI.
A New Layer of the Grid
Since launching in Early Access in November 2025 to Very Positive reviews on Steam, Into The Grid has earned praise from Polygon, which called it a game with “awesome card art,” from Wanderbots, who described it as “genuinely one of the best roguelike deckbuilders I’ve played in a while,” and from Debug Magazine, which gave it a 4/5 and praised its card art for the way it “juxtaposes with the stark chrome and shadows that dominate the exploration and combat phases.” The Metaprogression Update marks the next major step toward the game’s full vision.
What’s New in the Metaprogression Update

Hardware Mods: Customize Your Console Before You Jack In
The centerpiece of the update, Hardware Mods are unlockable perks that players equip before each run, ranging from flat stat boosts to game-changing customizations that interact with deck composition, Commands, and map traversal.
The first batch ships with over 30 Hardware Mods, drawn from a pool of more than 100 in design. Flatline Studios has committed to a zero-grinding philosophy: everything unlocks organically through play, with no loot boxes or repetitive farming required.
Missions: Objectives That Drive the Run
Each run is now accompanied by a set of Missions assigned based on the player’s level: combinations of objectives and run modifiers that shape what each run demands and rewards. Completing them speeds up the rate at which metaprogression elements are unlocked. The first batch includes approximately 40 Missions, with more to follow.

Redesigned Map UI
To support the new customization possibilities, the Map UI has been completely overhauled. The new interface handles all the ways the metaprogression system can reshape a run, keeping the map readable and informative regardless of how a player has configured their Runner.
