Rewind 99 Launches into Early Access on Steam

Indie developer Gunmetal Games today announced that Rewind 99, its open-world video rental store simulator, is now available in Early Access on Steam. To celebrate the launch, the game is currently available with a 20% launch discount.

In Rewind 99, players inherit the last surviving video rental store in the town of Reshoot Springs, just as the corporate streaming giant RentNet begins moving into town. Players must manage inventory, serve customers, customize their store, and explore the surrounding open world while building a business in a world that has largely moved on from physical media.

Along the way, players can unlock a variety of unconventional side hustles to expand their operation. These include installing a Mechanical Bull to bet on, running a Claw Machine filled with collectible prizes and loot capsules, partnering with an Illicit Candy Dealer to send customers into spending sprees, hiring a Repo Man to recover overdue rentals, and more. The Early Access version also introduces additional side hustles such as a Fight Club, Pizza Delivery services, Arcades, and Sloshy Bars, giving players new ways to grow their business beyond the video store.

The game also features 99 collectibles, lottery scratchers, extensive store customization, player customization, and cooperative multiplayer for up to four players.

The launch follows a strong showing during Steam Next Fest, where the game’s demo generated over 25,000 downloads, surpassed 50,000 wishlists, and reached 194 Steam reviews with an 89% positive rating.

Gunmetal Games plans to continue expanding the game during Early Access with new content, additional side hustles, improvements to multiplayer, and ongoing polish based on player feedback.

Rewind 99 is a cooperative open-world store simulator where players run the last video rental shop in town, balancing customer chaos with strange neighborhood gigs, bizarre side hustles, and a looming corporate threat determined to replace physical media forever.
