Building on the original’s 93% positive Steam rating, Shardpunk 2 shifts the core gameplay loop from a linear journey to a reconnaissance-driven campaign centered around a forward outpost near Capitol’s ruins. It’s not about hiding in the bunkers anymore, but rather venturing into hostile territory, gathering intel, and uncovering the origins of a new threat.
The Outpost is the heart of the new gameplay loop, moving beyond point-to-point travel. This forward base acts as the center for strategic management. The outpost is where you will send out teams to scavenge for vital resources like Fusion Cores, rare crystals, and amber – a resin whose newly discovered properties may yet reshape the future of humanity.
Shardpunk 2 significantly expands the tactical and RPG mechanics, continuing the blend of XCOM-style combat with Darkest Dungeon-inspired pressure. A key evolution is the new system that gives the players complete control over the squad’s identity and skillset. Survivors’ names and appearances are fully customizable, and their abilities are entirely player-defined. This addition, featuring hundreds of new skills, opens the window for the creation of unique combinations and diverse combat roles, offering dramatically increased strategic build variety compared to the original.
