Reality-Shifting Anomaly Horror, Switch the Darkness, Challenges Players to Survive the Infinite Loop

Independent developer Anton Neverov is thrilled to announce Switch the Darkness, a short, intense psychological horror experience that redefines the “anomaly hunting” genre. Built in Unreal Engine, the game pits players against a deceptive environment where their only weapon is a simple light switch.

The Rules are Simple. The Escape is Not. In Switch the Darkness, players find themselves trapped in a domestic nightmare – an infinite loop within a house that is constantly lying to them. To break the cycle, players must master the art of observation. The core “Switch” mechanic allows players to manipulate reality itself: darkness hides what the light reveals, and only by toggling between the two can the truth be uncovered.

“We wanted to create a concentrated dose of paranoia,” says creator Anton Neverov. “There is no combat and no inventory management. It’s just you, your memory, and the constant dread that the room you were just in has subtly changed while you weren’t looking.”

How to Survive the Loop:

  • Memorize the Room: Every detail matters—from the position of furniture to the expressions in paintings.
  • Flip the Switch: Toggle the lights to filter out anomalies and reveal hidden paths.
  • Spot the Anomaly: Detect subtle shifts, breathing objects, or misplaced shadows.
  • Decide Your Fate: If the room is normal, go to bed. If you spot an anomaly, switch the light. One mistake resets the loop.

Key Features:

  • The Switch Mechanic: You control reality. Use light and shadow as a lens to identify what is real and what is a threat.
  • Dynamic Shifting Anomalies: From minor object displacements to terrifying, lingering presences—no two loops are identical.
  • Pure Psychological Tension: A focused experience with no “cheap” mechanics—only your own paranoia and a flashlight in the dark.
  • Short & Intense: A high-fidelity horror experience designed to be completed in 15–60 minutes.
