Navigate Grief and Loss in a Hand-Drawn Puzzle Platformer, As I Began to Dream, Releasing Nov. 20th!

Indonesian studio Strayflux and Singaporean publisher Soft Source are excited to finally bring As I Began to Dream to players worldwide on November 20th.

As I Began to Dream is a stunningly hand-illustrated puzzle platformer detailing the story of a young girl’s journey through a mysterious dream world.

Inspired by the five stages of grief, the worlds of As I Began to Dream reflect Lily’s journey of navigating, and coming to terms with loss. Each chapter provides a different atmosphere matching each stage; Denial is warm and familiar. Anger is a furious, sand-whipping desert. Bargaining is a strange, calculating land. Depression is overwhelming and bleak. Reaching Acceptance is a long, arduous journey, but welcomes you with brightness and hope.

As players venture through the various, dreamlike realms, explore manifestations of her life and experiences, recover bits and pieces of Lily’s memories, find out what led her to this mysterious limbo, and guide her to finding peace and acceptance.

As I Began to Dream will be out on Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Nintendo Switch eShop on November 20th.

As I Began to Dream features a unique puzzle mechanic where players swap, rotate, and move blocks of the environment to solve platforming puzzles to progress through the world, and story. Combined with physics-based mechanics, and additional features like portals, enemies, and hazards, progression keeps players thinking and strategizing, while also not being overly difficult.

As the story is told from the perspective of a child, the art and visuals of As I Began to Dream were largely influenced by children’s storybooks. Vast, dreamlike, and full of childlike wonder and curiosity, the different worlds and settings in the game aim to emulate the same warm, hopeful feeling of diving into your favorite storybook from your childhood.

Composed by Indonesian composer JabFina, As I Began to Dream sinks you into the dream worlds Lily explores accompanied by a peaceful, melancholy soundtrack with over 37 original tracks.
