A Closer Look at Rewilders: The Lost Spring

Today, Herobeat Studios has revealed two ways to get a closer look at Rewilders: The Lost Spring, which was first unveiled in August. The latest gameplay video shares insights into gameplay, traversal, and dangers to expect while exploring the open world, plus a few hints at the story and characters within. If that’s not enough, hopeful players can sign up for the first private playtest opportunity today, running from November 12th to 19th via Steam’s playtest feature. Herobeat Studios is excited to cultivate insight and collaborate with players while crafting their heartfelt open world action roguelite, culminating in its Early Access launch on PC in 2026, with console launch plans further in the future.

In their latest video, the developers elaborate on the core gameplay of their upcoming open world roguelite, featuring Metroidvania and creature collecting elements. Many roguelite, roguelike, and Soulsborne players will be familiar with a home base as an anchor point, where players can rest, engage with rescued creatures, and rework their approach when venturing out into the world. Rewilders features a floating airship that presents several facets to play with, from planting seeds that sprout buffs, crafting consumables and weapons, to evolving you and your companions, known as Hântu. Traversal methods, such as the Hookshot and wall run, are available and can be earned through boss fights.

Videos, as lovely as they are, only convey so much when it comes to games. From November 12th to 19th, a select number of playtesters will be invited to try Rewilders: The Lost Spring’s Grasslands Playtest. Sign-ups are open now on Steam, and once approved, playtesters will be able to access future playtests starting with the Grasslands Playtest. More details will be shared on Steam and Discord, so the devs invite all potential players and playtesters to join as the game develops towards Early Access.

  • An open-world roguelite experience where curiosity and discovery go hand in hand, finding items, secrets, and paths to new challenges
  • Growth and rewards to be gained from fighting back against the corruption of Abi’s home across five unique biomes with their own bosses
  • Multiple combinations and approaches to play with while engaging in combat, utilizing several kinds of Hântu, abilities, levels, and buffs (permanent or temporary)
  • heart-warming story about family, friendship, resilience, and kindness.
  • Moving music, scenes from renowned artist Julie Elvenand the makers of Endling – Extinction is Forever.

Players will embody Abi, a survivor returning to the poisoned surface of the world to rescue her lost family and restore the wild. While exploring corrupted biomes – unlocking Hântu, finding lore, secrets, and enemies born from a failed society – she will come across her family and help restore them just as she will her environments, with the help of a mysterious being called Rif. The team was heavily inspired by the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli films, which convey messages of ecological destruction, empowerment, and family, while developing Rewilders. Utilizing creative audio-visual presentations and gameplay to tell evocative stories is a key component of Herobeat’s development philosophy.
