What is Medieval Crafter: Blacksmith?
At its core, Medieval Crafter: Blacksmith is a first-person simulation and crafting RPG where you take on the role of a Dwarven smith. It blends the satisfaction of detailed crafting mini-games with shop management, resource gathering, and even a bit of hero management.
Think of it as running a business where your product is legendary weaponry and armor. Cool, right?!

The Core Gameplay Loop: Forge, Mine, Manage
The game centers on a few key activities that keep the fires burning and the gold flowing:
1. Mastering the Forge (The Crafting)
This is the heart of the game. You’ll take raw ore and transform it into everything from simple daggers to magnificent two-handed swords and armor.
- The Mini-Games: The actual blacksmithing process is handled through a series of mini-games, of sorts. You’ll work the metal, focusing on things like proper alignment and striking the right parts to shape your creation. While some early reviews suggested the mechanics could be a bit simple (you just hit the metal a few times to complete the shape), the developers have been focused on making the forging process satisfying and accurate enough for a game experience.
- Diverse Creations: Your workbench won’t be limited to just weapons. You’ll be crafting a wide range of items, including horseshoes, enchanted trinkets, and different pieces of armor to fulfill numerous customer orders.
2. Delving into the Mines (The Resource Gathering)
A great weapon starts with great materials. You won’t just buy everything—you’ll get your hands dirty:
- Mining Expeditions: Delve deep into the mines to extract precious ores and minerals needed for your crafts.
- Upgrading for Profit: You can upgrade your mine to increase your yield and discover rarer, more valuable materials to create those legendary items.

3. Time, Trade, and Townsfolk (The Management)
Being a blacksmith is also about running a business, so we need to use our charisma here:
- Time Management: The game features a day-night cycle, adding a layer of time management as you balance mining trips, working on orders, and dealing with customers.
- Customer Service: You’ll fulfill orders from a diverse cast of villagers and adventurers. You’ll also engage in a haggle mini-game, of sorts, to ensure you get the best price for your hard-earned creations.
- Workshop Upgrades: Customize and expand your workshop and living quarters to improve efficiency and create the perfect home for a master crafter.
4. The Hero System (The RPG Element)
Your creations aren’t just for show. You can recruit heroes and arm them with the weapons and armor you forge.
- Epic Quests: Send your heroes out on quests to bring back valuable loot, gold, and new recipes. Their success and the quality of the treasures they return with, is directly tied to the quality of the gear you equip them with.

Should You Pick Up the Hammer?
If you enjoy a relaxing mix of crafting, simulation, and management, and have a soft spot for fantasy settings (especially the idea of being a tough, gear-focused Dwarf), this game is very easily a solid fit.
- You’ll Love This If: You enjoy loop-based crafting games, appreciate the fantasy aesthetic, and want to see the literal fruits of your labor used by questing heroes.
- Be Aware: As an Early Access title (or recently released from Early Access, depending on when you read this), some minor bugs or simplified mechanics might be present. Check the most recent Steam reviews to see the community’s current take on the depth of the forging mechanics and overall game stability before buying.
Forge your destiny. Craft your legend. The Anvil awaits!
