Indie developer Sporelite Games is thrilled to announce that the playable demo of Shroomwood – a top down 2D action roguelike – is available November 14th on Steam. Shroomwood invites players to step into the spores of “Shroomie,” a courageous little mushroom warrior set to explore the ever-shifting depths of the mystical Shroomwood forest.
A Forest of Endless Possibilities
In Shroomwood, no two journeys are ever the same. Players will:
- Engage in fast paced combat across procedurally generated environments.
- Discover, dual wield, and upgrade a wide arsenal of weapons and modifiers.
- Traverse through vibrant biomes filled with slime, zombie mushrooms, and countless surprises lurking within the forest.
- Uncover the hidden Shroomstead hub – a clearing where NPCs await, upgrades happen, and mysteries deepen between runs.
Demo Highlights
The current demo version gives players a taste of what’s to come:
- 1 playable character and at least one level theme.
- Over 20 unique rooms, more than 20 unique weapons, 50+ modifiers, and several bosses to challenge the player.
- Full community integration: join the Discord, submit feedback, become part of the development process.

Why This Demo Matters
For Sporelite Games, the demo is much more than a simple trial version. It’s an invitation:
- To the community: Players can shape what Shroomwood becomes by offering feedback, testing the game, and providing suggestions.
- To roguelike enthusiasts: With influences from genres known for replayability and growth, Shroomwood brings a fresh take by blending melee and ranged combat in a stylized, mushroom filled world.
- To indie gamers: This demo opens the door to a larger, full release scheduled for late 2026.
What’s Next
Following the demo release, Sporelite Games plans to roll out regular updates adding new weapons, levels, enemies, and modifiers, as well as expanded playable characters with unique visuals, stats, and abilities. Dynamic branching level systems that adapt with player progression, and continued community involvement through playtesting, suggestion sessions, and bug reports.
