Demo Dive #9: Cloudheim – A Kinetic Co-Op Adventure with a Shopkeeping Twist

Yo, What’s the Vibe?

Never played Cloudheim? No sweat. Think of it as if Zelda got a physics engine, dumped all its loot on a giant flying turtle, and opened a store. It’s a 1-4 player action-adventure RPG that just throws everything in the pot: physics-based combat, deep crafting loops, and a chill shop sim.

If you’re into that bright, chunky aesthetic, love grinding for sweet loot, and want something wilder than your average hack-and-slash, this genre mashup might be your next fix.

Combo-Driven Mayhem (The Gameplay Loop): The combat is absolutely the highlight, built around a fun, kinetic physics system. Forget cooldowns and spamming your best move. Here, it’s all about chaining abilities to juggle enemies, kicking exploding barrels for an instant AOE, and smashing environment pieces to multiply your damage. It feels less like a traditional RPG fight and more like a high-speed pinball game, in the best way.

Shared Loot, Shared Wins (Co-Op): This game is begging to be played with a squad. The best part? Progression is shared. Anything you or your friends unlock, weapons, abilities, whatever; the whole crew gets access to. This kills the grind and lets you focus on creating insane team combos and experimenting with different builds on the fly. No more waiting on your buddy stuck in a menu.

The Odin Shell Base: Your base is an ancient flying turtle called the Odin Shell. It’s your mobile hub where you set up your workshop and run a fantasy shop to sell the gear and mats you haul back. It’s a super charming and unique idea that gives your dungeon-crawling and resource runs an actual purpose.

A Bit Rough Around the Edges: Look, this is an ambitious game, and it currently feels like a promising pre-alpha demo. The core idea is amazing, but the execution can be a little clunky. The UI is often a mess, feeling like a placeholder, and overall polish is low. You’ll definitely be reminded that you’re playing something still deep in development.

The Float Factor: For an action game, the movement and combat can feel too light, or “floaty.” While the physics are cool, inconsistent hit feedback means your attacks don’t always feel like they have the satisfying oomph they should. Sometimes the kinetics are so intense it’s hard to tell what’s actually hitting what.

The Host Dilemma (The Biggest Caveat): Here’s the potential dealbreaker for multi-player: Your character’s progression is locked to the save file of the person hosting the world. If you level up a bunch in your friend’s world, you’ll have to start from scratch if you jump into a random game or try to continue solo. It’s a baffling design choice that makes joining casual games a huge gamble.

Cloudheim has killer concept and amazing vibes, blending that bright, colorful fantasy with genuinely unique combat. The potential for a must-play co-op RPG is through the roof.

  • If you mostly fly solo, you might get annoyed by the lack of polish and clear direction. Hold off for now and check back once the full game drops out of Early Access.
  • If you have a solid crew ready to mess around with crazy physics and don’t mind grinding out a few bugs, jump in now. The shared progression and the sheer joy of creating a massive environmental combo with your friends is worth the price of admission.

Final Take: This game has serious bangers potential, but it’s not quite a polished gem yet. It’s got heart and some truly fun mechanics, but the current build is best enjoyed with friends who don’t mind a little jank.
